           On 20.3.2007 an one day workshop was conducted for CCIW Officials at State Crime Record Bureau, Foreshore Estate, Chennai to update their knowledge in Co-operative Act and other related issues.

 

 

 

TOP RECOGNITION TO TAMIL NADU POLICE FOR COMMUNITY POLICING INITIATIVE LAUNCHED IN TRICHY DURING 1999 – 2001 

  Tr.J.K.Tripathy, IPS, presently Inspector General of Police, Economic Offences Wing,
was given the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration for his iinnovative community policing scheme launched at Trichy during his tenure as Commissioner of Police, Trichy (1999 – 2001). The award was presented by the Hon’ble Prime Minister in a befitting function organized on the occasion of the 3rd Civil ServiceDay at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

            During 1999 – 2001, a series of innovative and people-friendly schemes with community participation were introduced in Trichy City, for controlling crimes and improving service delivery by the Police. The noteworthy initiatives were “Beat Officers’ System”, “Slum Adoption Programme” and “Complaint Box System”. These initiatives not only resulted in drastic reduction in crimes but also helped in bridging the gap between Police and Public and making policing people-friendly. The vastly improved service delivery enhanced the Police image tremendously.

            The Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration introduced in 2005 for recognizing implementation of such outstanding innovative schemes, carries a medal, a scroll and cash award of Rs.1,00,000/-. For the first time in the country, this award has been conferred on an Indian Police Service officer and for Tamil Nadu State.

            It further goes to the credit of Tamil Nadu State this project also received international recognition at the highest level on two occasions earlier, having been awarded the “International Community Policing Award” conferred by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Washington and the “Innovation in Governance Gold Medal” conferred by the Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management (CAPAM) at Glasgow.

            On 29.04.2008, Tr.J.K.Tripathy, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Economic Offences Wing called on Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and received Hon’ble CM’s congratulations. Tr.K.P.Jain, IPS, Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu was also present during the occasion.
